Leaders from Chisinau, message after two years of war in Ukraine: "We will continue to do everything for peace"
The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, the Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, and the Prime Minister, Dorin Recean, addressed a joint message on the occasion of marking two years since the brutal invasion of Russia against Ukraine. The leaders from Chisinau evoked the courage of the Ukrainians in the fight for freedom and expressed the solidarity of the Republic of Moldova with the Ukrainian people.
"Today marks two years since the start of Russia's war in Ukraine, two years in which hospitals, kindergartens, shops, residential blocks, churches are bombed every day in the neighboring country. Today, we mark two years of terror, but we also mark two years of resistance. It's been two years since Ukraine stood upright and dignified and through the heroism of Ukrainians - military and civilians - defending the freedom of the entire European continent and peace in our country. We are grateful to the Ukrainians for their extraordinary courage", wrote Maia Sandu in a post on the Facebook page.
The head of state said that in these two years, the Republic of Moldova understood firsthand the importance of peace and freedom.
"The Republic of Moldova has shown itself and the whole world that it chooses life and that it will always help all those in need. Moldovans want to live in good understanding and we will strive for peace in our country", declared Maia Sandu.
Prime Minister Dorin Recean said that there is peace and security in the Republic of Moldova thanks to the Ukrainian people
"2 years of war in Ukraine brought us hardships unimaginable before. But they also showed us that true power lies in humanity, in solidarity and courage. The Republic of Moldova has received and hosted hundreds of thousands of refugees since the beginning of Russia's war in Ukraine. For 2 years, despite all the challenges, there has been peace in Moldova. People in our villages and cities are safe, trains run, planes fly, and the Government builds roads, modernizes hospitals, kindergartens, schools, we support the opening of businesses at home. We will continue to build European Moldova, to make it stronger and more resilient. We will continue to do everything for peace," said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
The Parliament Speaker, Igor Grosu, stated that Ukraine is fighting for dignity and nation, fighting for life.
"For 2 years the free world has acted as one voice - the voice of good. And we will continue to do this until good wins and peace is restored", Igor Grosu declared.
Two years ago, on the morning of February 24, Russia attacked Ukraine, declaring that it was starting a "special military operation" to liberate it. Since then, a bloody war has started in the neighboring country that continues to this day, with hundreds of thousands of people dead and injured, millions of refugees, with destroyed towns and infrastructure. The Republic of Moldova and the EU states strongly condemn Russia's brutal war of aggression against Ukraine and the illegal annexation of Ukrainian territories.
