Russian Opposition Leader Alexei Navalny's Funeral Status Uncertain Amid Tribute Controversy
The lifeless body of Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been handed over to his mother, announced Navalny's spokesperson, Kira Yarmish, on social media.
It remains uncertain if authorities will permit the desired funeral arrangements. Meanwhile, supporters continue to pay tribute on the ninth day following his death.
VOX: "Today marks nine days since the passing of Alexei Navalny, who was killed by the country's leadership. It's a sombre occasion. I feel a profound loss. Reflecting on Yulia Navalnaya's steadfast support, I am convinced she will carry on his legacy."
"I wish to honour Alexei's courage. Let's remember, love, and take pride in his impact on our era."
"He is a hero to us! - He wasn't defeated. - His spirit remains unbroken. The heinous nature of his death deeply troubles us. I held hope for his release."
"He is the most significant political figure in the past 15 years. Who else can challenge this regime? He transcended mere politics; his charisma was unparalleled."
The announcement of Alexei Navalny's passing came on February 16. Since then, Russian authorities have held his body, even threatening burial within the prison colony where he died.
Ludmila Navalnaya, his mother, accused authorities on Thursday of intimidation tactics, fearing they may bury her son clandestinely to prevent his supporters from bidding farewell to the Russian opposition leader.
