US, UK Strike Houthi Targets in Yemen

The US and UK have carried out new airstrikes against the Houthi movement in Yemen. According to the Pentagon, 18 locations were targeted in the fourth such joint operation by the allies, BBC has reported.

The US says the strikes targeted storage facilities, drones, air defence systems, radars, and a helicopter belonging to the Houthi group. Britain says the operation aimed to "further degrade" the Houthis' capabilities.

The Iran-backed Houthis have launched frequent attacks on shipping in the Red Sea, a vital trade route. They have targeted vessels linked to Israel and the West in response to the ongoing Israel-Gaza conflict.

These attacks have caused major disruptions and rising costs for global supply chains. Some of the world's largest shipping companies have diverted routes away from the Red Sea, one of the busiest shipping lanes globally.
