France Blames Russia for Antisemitic Graffiti Campaign
France accuses Russia's security service of orchestrating an antisemitic campaign last year that included painting the Star of David on buildings in Paris and its suburbs, France 24 has reported.
The graffiti, discovered after the Israel-Hamas war began, was widely interpreted as a threat to Jews. Investigators say a Moldovan couple carried out the vandalism, allegedly organised by a pro-Russian Moldovan businessman.
French authorities believe the operation was directed by Russia's FSB intelligence agency. The two suspects were arrested in October 2023 and face charges of hate crimes.
According to Le Monde, the operation is part of a broader Russian disinformation campaign targeting several European countries.
