The primary goal is to improve comfort and medical conditions for patients and staff. It also seeks to reduce carbon emissions and energy costs.

In the first phase, 10 key medical institutions will be renovated for energy efficiency. This will benefit over a million patients and 10,000 healthcare workers annually.

"Energy efficiency has become a very interesting topic for society and now we are at the stage when we need to do something concrete. The idea of the project came from the fact that we have very large losses in the public sector, where we can manage energy much more intelligently. Therefore, energy efficiency is the long-term solution. The 10 institutions were selected by the Government, and with the help of development partners, this project is becoming a reality," said UCIPE Director Ruslan Surugiu.

"In the first phase of the project, five public institutions were selected: the Institute of Neurology and Neurosurgery, the Republican Center for Medical Diagnostics, the Institute of Phthisiopneumology, the Institute of Cardiology and the Psychiatric Hospital. This project will contribute to reducing electricity costs by 20 percent and thermal energy costs by 50 percent," said Boris Băluțel, director of the Republican Center for Medical Diagnostics.

"Medical institutions, like other institutions, have probably felt the burden of heating costs. By implementing these projects, we hope that these costs will be reduced," said Doina Rusu, director of the Institute of Phthisiopneumology.

The Energy Efficiency Project in the Republic of Moldova is one of the largest national projects on improving the energy efficiency of public buildings implemented to date. The project investment value is about 76 million euros.
