Breaking: Deadly Israeli Airstrikes Rock Lebanon's Baalbek Region

At least two simultaneous Israeli airstrikes struck the vicinity of Baalbek, Lebanon, on Monday, two security sources told Reuters.

These strikes mark Israel's first incursion into eastern Lebanon since the onset of the Gaza conflict on October 7, as reported by news.ro.

According to two Lebanese sources, the airstrikes resulted in the deaths of at least two Hezbollah members.

Israel's targeting has primarily been focused on southern Lebanon, near the border, although recent weeks have seen a shift towards targets further north. Monday's strikes in the Bekaa Valley, recognized as a Hezbollah stronghold, signal an escalation of Israel's campaign, as noted by a source with close ties to Lebanese security services.

Images broadcast by Lebanese television channel Al Jadeed on Monday depicted plumes of smoke rising in the Baalbek area.

The Israeli military stated that it is currently engaging Hezbollah terrorist targets deep within Lebanese territory, without divulging additional details.

The Lebanese Shiite movement, a supporter of the Palestinian Hamas movement, has yet to issue a statement.

Israel and Hezbollah have intensified their exchanges of fire and cross-border attacks since the commencement of the Gaza conflict, triggered by Hamas' incursion into Israeli territory on October 7.
