Moldovan Farmers Get New Credit Support

Representatives of the farming sector, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, and banks met to resolve ongoing challenges in the sector.

Following the meeting, farmers agreed to an alternative credit mechanism with an 80% state guarantee for loans up to 1.6 million lei. This does not include the separate 500 thousand lei emergency loan project.

The new mechanism could be applied from March 15. It could also become a permanent credit product for all farmers with an annual turnover of up to 50 million lei, regardless of the field of production.

The farmers also mentioned that they will discuss VAT refunds with representatives of the Ministry of Finance.

In recent weeks, farmers have repeatedly blocked the access road to the Leușeni customs office. They are demanding additional aid of 400 million lei, compensation for corn and sunflower crops sown in 2023, and the acceleration of the process of receiving 4,000 tons of diesel from Romania.
