Halep Wins Doping Appeal: Back in 9 Months

Simona Halep has scored a big win in her fight against a doping suspension.

The Romanian tennis star's initial 4-year ban, imposed by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) after a positive test for roxadustat in October 2022, has been significantly reduced to just 9 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

Halep has consistently maintained her innocence, claiming the banned substance entered her system through a contaminated supplement. Following hearings in early February, CAS reviewed the case and ultimately ruled in her favor, voiding the blood test results from her biological passport.

This decision means Halep will be eligible to compete again soon. The Miami Open, held from March 19th to 31st, could be her return tournament.
