Moldova Hit by Facebook, Instagram Outage

Social media users in Moldova are experiencing an outage affecting Facebook and Instagram. Users were automatically logged out and are currently unable to log back in.

The cause of the disruption remains unknown.

According to Downdetector, a website that tracks website outages, over 350,000 users in Moldova have reported problems with Facebook. Instagram is also experiencing issues, with around 55,000 reports.

This outage comes just over two years after a major global Facebook outage in October 2021, which lasted for seven hours and affected platforms like Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger. An insider reportedly claimed that the outage resulted in an estimated $100 million loss of revenue for META Platforms.

According to the legislation, during the electoral campaign, political advertising is prohibited and only electoral advertising is allowed for candidates and referendum participants registered by to the CEC.

Deputies meet in a new plenary session. According to the agenda approved by the Standing Bureau, the Parliament is to ratify an agreement that provides for Canada to offer a loan to the Republic of Moldova in the amount of 120 million Canadian dollars, the equivalent of over one and a half billion lei. The money will be used to strengthen the resilience of households, including refugees, but also to support climate resilience and the transition to green energy. On the agenda is also a project to adjust the national regulatory framework with the provisions of the European Union legislation regarding contracts for the supply of digital content and digital services. At today's meeting, the appointment of some members of the Superior Council of Magistracy is also planned. These are Sergiu Băieșu and Tatiana Tabuncic.
