Maia Sandu condemns Russia's attacks on Odessa: "Support for Ukraine is imperative"

President Maia Sandu condemns the drone attacks launched by the Russian Federation on the Odesa region, as a result of which five people died. The head of state appealed to the international community to support Ukraine.

"Russia's war on Ukraine poses a direct threat to our shared security in Europe. Support for Ukraine is imperative," the head of state wrote in a post on the X platform.

We remind you that at least five people were killed as a result of drone attacks launched by the Russian Federation on the Odesa region.

"Investigative actions are being carried out, all the circumstances of another war crime committed by Russia are being established. The total number is still being determined," Ukrainian Navy spokesman Dmitri Pletenchiuk said.

Air raid alerts were sounded this morning, followed by a loud explosion, according to local reports.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy confirmed this afternoon that Russia had fired a missile at the city and that there had been casualties.

"I saw this attack today. You see who we're dealing with, they don't care where they hit," he told reporters, referring to the fact that the attack happened while Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis was visiting the city.

Mitsotakis said Zelenski and his staff were giving him a tour of the Odesa port when he heard the air raid siren. "Shortly after, as we were getting into our cars, we heard a loud explosion," Mitsotakis said.

Mitsotakis went on to tour the nine-story building that was damaged in a Russian drone strike on March 2. Then 12 people died, including five children.
