How to Get an Electronic Signature in Moldova

Over 200,000 Moldovans currently have electronic signatures, allowing them to access various digital services, says Mircea Eșanu, director of the Public Services Agency.

However, officials consider this number limited and encourage citizens to obtain their own signatures. The government aims to triple the number of users annually.

"According to our colleagues at the tax agency, approximately 200,000 Moldovans hold electronic signatures. This means a limited number of people have access to these services. Estonia successfully issued electronic identities to all citizens, guaranteeing access to services. We aim to replicate their success and significantly increase the number of digital identity holders each year," said Eșanu.

Electronic signatures can be obtained from the Information Technology and Cybersecurity Service or mobile phone operators. The first electronic signature in Moldova was created in 2012, with over four thousand requests registered that year.
