Romanian Minister of Defense about the military cooperation with the Republic of Moldova: "We respect its status of neutrality"
The Republic of Moldova has a close military cooperation with Romania, only that the Romanian government respects the status of neutrality of the neighboring state. The statement was made by the Romanian Minister of Defense, Angel Tîlvăr, in an interview for Digi24.
"When we talk about Moldova, we are talking about a soul partner of Romania, so the relationship between us and the Republic of Moldova is one that, on the one hand, is known internationally and on the other hand, it was formed naturally. Last winter, Moldova had problems with energy supply. The fact that the Romanian government has been involved so well and so much to solve this crisis, and we can also relate to the European aspirations that the Republic of Moldova has, having the status of a candidate country, and you probably know that Romania is the country that promotes Moldova the most", declared the Romanian official.
Asked about what Romania is doing for the Republic of Moldova in the military field, Tîlvăr said that the Republic of Moldova has the status of a neutral country from a military point of view, and Romania respects international law and this status.
"This does not mean that from a bilateral point of view we did not have elements of cooperation - non-lethal equipment that we offered to Moldova, I myself was there and my relationship with the Minister of Defense from Moldova is natural - we meet very often. Then we have elements related to preparation that are done jointly. We have elements of support, Moldova being a state that is at the forefront of Russia's hybrid actions, which is not pleased with Moldova's European course", concluded the Romanian Minister of Defense.
