Zelensky: Russian Advance Halted, Ukrainian Army Faces Challenges
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky declared on Monday that the Russian advance has been halted, countering recent assessments of the military situation in Ukraine, news.ro has reported.
He acknowledged challenges faced by the Ukrainian army due to a lack of ammunition delivery.
During an interview with BFMTV and Le Monde, Zelensky provided updates, stating that the situation has improved compared to the last three months.
While the Russian advance continues in eastern Ukraine, Ukrainian forces successfully stopped it on Monday.
Zelensky emphasised the Ukrainian army's difficulties, citing shortages in artillery ammunition, air blockades, and Russian weapons with long-range capabilities.
However, he assured that the Russian advance has been stopped, and the Russian army is poised to suffer significant losses.
Zelensky cautioned that this assessment may change if the Ukrainian army does not receive adequate support in the coming weeks.
Regarding Avdiivka, Zelensky clarified that the Russian army chose to destroy the town before retreating.
He highlighted the enemy's superiority in long-range weaponry and urged Western support in this regard.
Zelensky estimated that Russian forces hold a 20-kilometre advantage.
On February 19, just days before the two-year anniversary of the Russian invasion, Zelensky described the Ukrainian army's situation as "extremely difficult."
The Ukrainian president announced that defensive lines spanning over 1,000 kilometres have been built or are under construction on the Ukrainian front.
He mentioned three lines of defence already established against Russian forces in eastern, southern, and northern Ukraine.
