The USA is sending a new ambassador to the Republic of Moldova. Who is Kelly Adams-Smith?

Kent Logsdon ends his mandate as ambassador of the United States of America (USA) to the Republic of Moldova. His place will be taken by Kelly Adams-Smith, nominated on Thursday, March 14, by US President Joe Biden for this position. Kelly Adams-Smith is currently the Deputy Head of the US Mission to the European Union.

Kelly Adams-Smith is a career diplomat in the US Senior Foreign Service with the rank of Minister Counselor.

Before arriving in Brussels in 2021, Kelly Adams-Smith was the senior coordinator for national security affairs in the office of Vice President Kamala Harris.

She previously succeeded Kent D. Logsdon as deputy chief of mission at the U.S. Embassy in Prague, Czech Republic. Kelly Adams-Smith also served as Economic Counselor at the US Embassy in London.

From 2011 to 2013, Kelly Adams-Smith served as Deputy Executive Secretary of the White House National Security Council. Also, she had diplomatic missions in Bulgaria, Estonia and Russia, but also at the missions of the State Department in Washington, D.C. A native of New Jersey, Kelly Adams-Smith entered the Foreign Service after she passed undergraduate and graduate degrees from American University in Washington, D.C. and Harvard University.

Kelly Adams-Smith speaks Russian, Bulgarian, Estonian and Czech.
