Ukraine Targets Russia's Oil Supply, Hits Refineries
The governor of the Russian region of Samara said on Saturday that Ukrainian drones had struck two oil refineries belonging to state-owned oil giant Rosneft, causing no casualties but leaving one of them ablaze.
The Syzran refinery, in the Volga River region, caught fire, but an attack on the Novokuibyshevsk refinery was thwarted, Governor Dmitry Azarov said in a statement on the Telegram messaging app. He said workers at both plants had been evacuated and there were no casualties.
Unverified images posted online appeared to show a major fire at the Syzran refinery, with emergency services working at the scene.
In recent weeks, Ukraine has been heavily targeting Russia's oil infrastructure, hitting refineries in Bryansk, Kursk, and Belgorod.
The governor of the border province of Belgorod, which has been under near-constant attack in recent months, said five people, including a child, were wounded in a drone strike on a car driving near the border with Ukraine.
