Controversy Alert: Mayor Ceban Accuses Education Ministry of Layoffs
A fresh dispute arises between the Mayor of the Capital, Ion Ceban, and central authorities. This time, the mayor accuses the Ministry of Education of planning a new action against certain employees in educational institutions.
Ceban claims that, according to a decree signed last year, as of August 1, some schools will be required to reduce staff based on the number of students. The Ministry of Education refutes these allegations.
In a Facebook post, Ion Ceban wrote that those most affected will be employees working in schools with fewer than 200 students. The mayor argues that the first employees to be laid off will be psychologists, psycho-pedagogues, and deputy directors. Ceban further claims that he has already been contacted by some institution directors regarding this matter.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Education states that it will soon present a detailed analysis of the new staffing tables, as the mayor's messages are false and create confusion in the education system. According to the institution's statement, the staffing tables were modified in 2023 for the first time in 24 years since their creation. Before approval, the new staffing tables underwent extensive discussion, including with the directors of educational institutions in Chisinau, and the final version incorporates all the constructive proposals made during public debates.
