Netanyahu's Firm Stance: Israel's Gaza Offensive Will Continue Despite Criticism

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu declared this Sunday that Israel's allies have a short memory regarding the October 7, 2023 attack by the Palestinian Islamist group Hamas on his country, and that Israel will press on with its offensive in the Gaza Strip despite mounting international pressure, Reuters reports.

"To our friends in the international community, I say: do you have such a short memory? Have you forgotten so quickly October 7, the gravest massacre perpetrated against Jews since the Holocaust? Are you so quick to deny Israel's right to defend itself against the monsters of Hamas?" Netanyahu said at the beginning of the cabinet meeting.

The head of government reiterated that Israel will continue its offensive in Gaza, including in the city of Rafah, while evacuating civilians from combat zones. AFP notes that nearly 1.5 million Palestinians live in Rafah, a city located in the southern Gaza Strip, according to the UN.

*"No international pressure will prevent us from achieving all the objectives of our war" * against the Palestinian Hamas movement, "we will act in Rafah, it will take a few weeks, but it will happen," Netanyahu insisted, according to a press release from his office.
