COVID-19: The first cases of infection with Kraken confirmed in the Republic of Moldova
The first three cases of infection with the Kraken subvariant, a variant of the Omicron strain, were confirmed in the Republic of Moldova. This was announced by the National Public Health Agency (ANSP).
"The results of the sequencing reaction, from January 16, 2023, show that, in all 16 selected samples, the spread of sublines belonging to the Omicron variant was identified. In 3 samples, the XBB.1.5 subline (unofficially called Kraken) was confirmed, for the first time in the Republic of Moldova, being the most contagious subline at the moment," reads the ANSP press release.
In this context, the health authorities urge the population to get vaccinated against the SARS-CoV-2 virus, but also to respect the public health measures for the prevention and control of the COVID-19 infection.
