Snowfall Disruptions: Moldova Braces for Winter

Winter has resurged in the Republic of Moldova towards the end of March. Across the northern and central regions of the country, persistent snowfall has prompted intervention by road maintenance crews equipped for snow removal.

Authorities have reported challenges in navigating certain roads. Meteorologists predict continued weather instability for several days, with rainfall anticipated throughout the upcoming week.

Travel conditions have been particularly arduous in the central region of the country. Police notifications indicate challenging travel conditions on specific routes, notably between the localities of Bursuc in the Nisporeni district and Căpriana in the Strășeni district.

Numerous heavy-tonnage vehicles have been observed parked along the roadside between the towns of Orhei and Rezina. Drivers in the village of Peresecina have conveyed heightened vigilance while traversing roads.

Road maintenance crews have been active since the early hours, clearing snow and distributing anti-slip materials across more than nine districts. In the northern reaches of the country, snow accumulation has reached approximately three centimetres, with some areas experiencing icy conditions.

According to meteorologist Natalia Gherasim, the period from March 22 to 24 is expected to remain precipitation-free. However, starting from March 25, precipitation is anticipated once again due to the influence of an Atlantic cyclone.

Law enforcement authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution, refrain from sudden manoeuvres such as braking and acceleration, and strictly adhere to posted speed limits.
