Diplomatic Crisis: Moldova Expels Russian Diplomat

The Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Chișinău, Mihai Mîțu, announced that a Russian diplomat declared persona non grata must depart Moldova within 72 hours, in accordance with the Vienna Convention.

Mîțu stated that the individual's actions or position within Moldova led to this decision. Waiting for a response from the Russian Federation, Mîțu emphasised that Moldova had not yet received a reply.

A collaborator of the Russian Embassy in Moldova received the persona non grata status. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs conveyed a protest note to Oleg Vasnețov, the head of the diplomatic mission, regarding the organisation of Russian presidential elections in the Transnistrian region of Moldova, contrary to Moldovan authorities' stance. In response, the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs warned that Moldova's actions, including the expulsion of the Russian diplomat, would not be left unanswered.
