According to the source, the specialists of the Environmental Reference Laboratory of the Environment Agency took the data from different distances from the place where the fire broke out at a grain storage tank.

"*The perception of the specific smell is conditioned by the presence of phenol in the atmospheric air, which is assumed to be emitted by the overheating of the mineral wool, used as an insulating layer of the storage tanks for sunflower seed meal," reads the release.

The Environment Agency informs that it will continue monitoring the level of air pollution in the area of the Giurgiulești Free International Port, and the area related to the locality. Starting from January 18, the Environment Agency together with the colleagues of the Environmental Protection Agency in Bucharest will monitor the air quality in the given region by means of a mobile laboratory equipped with modern equipment. Following the evaluation of the data, the Environment Agency will come up with updated information on this subject.
