Maia Sandu, after the meeting with Alexander De Croo: Belgium backs the accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union

The accession of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union, the reforms carried out by our country and the economic cooperation between Brussels and Chisinau were the topics discussed by the President Maia Sandu and the Prime Minister of Belgium, Alexander De Croo, who paid a visit to Chisinau. In a post on Facebook, the head of state emphasized that Belgium, with an area comparable to that of our country, is a good example of the fact that in the European Union all countries are respected, regardless of size.

"What really matters is our unity and aspiration to live in peace and freedom," continued Maia Sandu.

In the context of the visit, the two officials also discussed with young people from several high schools in Chisinau about the future of the Republic of Moldova in the EU.

"Belgium, one of the six founding countries of the Union, firmly supports us in our aspiration to be part of the great European family. Young people will primarily benefit from joining the EU, that's why it's crucial that their voices are heard, that the choices made today will be reflected in the future, in the shaping of the European Moldova as they want it", the president added. Maia Sandu urged the young generation to be active, to get involved and to promote European values, including in the referendum this fall.

"European integration is not about politics and parties, European integration is a country project, a project of everyone, and it is about how the next generations will live - in peace, in a European country, democratic, prosperous and safe." We remind you that the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Belgium, Alexander De Croo, paid a working visit to the Republic of Moldova on April 3.
