Russian Assault: Kharkiv Region Under Fire, Ukrainian Forces Respond
Russian forces have initiated an assault on the Kharkiv region as of the morning of April 6th.
According to statements made by the city's mayor, Igor Terekhov, this offensive has resulted in the loss of at least six lives, with several dozen individuals sustaining injuries.
Reports indicate that numerous residential blocks, administrative structures, and private vehicles were targeted in the bombardment. Notably, around 1:00 AM, a missile struck a shop within the city limits; fortunately, there were no reported casualties at the scene.
The Kharkiv region, due to its proximity to the border, has been enduring near-daily attacks, resulting in significant destruction. Since February 24, 2022, over 20,000 buildings have been demolished, as per official figures released by the Ukrainian government.
In response, Ukrainian forces have successfully intercepted 28 drones and three missiles, as confirmed by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
A message from Ukrainian authorities condemns the ongoing aggression, expressing sorrow for the loss of lives and injuries inflicted upon civilians. The message emphasises the relentless targeting of Kharkiv and other peaceful cities by Russian forces.
Moreover, an air raid alert was issued in multiple regions of Ukraine last night due to the imminent threat of drone and missile strikes. Additionally, a series of explosions occurred in Zaporizhia, further highlighting the volatile situation within the country.
