Orthodox Christians Flock to Market for Annunciation: High Demand for Fish
A significant crowd has gathered at the fish stalls in the Central Market as Orthodox Christians following the old calendar observe the Annunciation on Sunday, a day permitting the consumption of fish.
Since the early morning hours, people have flocked to the stalls seeking the freshest catch, ideal for culinary preparations associated with this celebration. Whether frozen, smoked, or fresh, fish has been in high demand, with buyers showing little concern for prices.
Sellers assert that while prices haven't risen, they've instead decreased, anticipating eager customers seeking fish for this occasion. This event, annually observed on April 7th, marks a significant feast for Orthodox Christians, coinciding with the Easter fast and signalling the commencement of the nine-month countdown to Christmas.
