Moldova Fights Russian Hybrid War with EU Support
The Republic of Moldova stands on the European frontline and has been forced to confront the hybrid war launched by the Russian Federation for the past two years, stated Germany's Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock.
She emphasised that destabilisation has been a key part of Russia's war strategy. Minister Baerbock affirmed that Germany has provided economic and political assistance to the Republic of Moldova, and these measures will continue.
"Alongside the Center for Combating Disinformation in Moldova and the EU, we are working hand in hand to combat disinformation and hybrid threats. We are providing concrete support to help you develop your ability to analyse and respond to fake news in the future. We do this in a cross-border manner with other partners, especially Romania and Ukraine, because every post containing Russian narratives and lies undermines democracy in Moldova," said the head of diplomacy in Berlin.
Moldova's Foreign Minister, Mihai Popșoi, on an official visit to Germany, noted that through hybrid warfare, the Kremlin is trying to divide society and derail Moldova's path toward European integration. He asserted that, thanks to external partners, the country can advance in the process of joining the EU.
"We have the opportunity to advance on our European path, to continue to help Ukraine, and to offer a hope for a better future for our citizens thanks to this enormous support from our Western partners in the free world. Russia has made enormous efforts and continues to do so to destabilise the Republic of Moldova in the hope of imposing a pro-Russian government that could hinder Ukraine. However, our citizens can tell the difference between truth and lies, and they appreciate the effort and support of our European partners," said the Foreign Minister of Chisinau.
Mihai Popșoi highlighted Germany's role as an important trading partner and investor in the Republic of Moldova and expressed the authorities' desire to increase these investments.
