FAO Conference Moved: Moldova Bars Russian Officials
The Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), originally scheduled to take place in Chisinau from May 14 to 17, will be relocated to Rome, Italy.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) in Chisinau announced the change, reiterating the Moldovan authorities' principled position of not admitting the presence of Russian officials on its territory.
"With reference to the 34th edition of the FAO Conference for Europe, we reiterate that the authorities of the Republic of Moldova have taken the principled position of not admitting to its territory representatives of the FAO member state that is conducting a war of aggression against another FAO member state," the statement said.
According to the source, all relevant parties have been informed about potential hybrid participation formats for delegations to the event.
"Since the Republic of Moldova honours its international commitments, the proposal to transfer the event to Rome came from Chisinau in order to allow the meeting to take place in accordance with the FAO statute and its rules of procedure," the Ministry also stated.
The event organised in Rome will take place under the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova.
Previously, the authorities in Chisinau announced they would not admit the participation of Russian officials in the Regional Conference of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), scheduled for May 14-17. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement to this effect.
