Germany Rushes Patriot Missiles to Ukraine Amid Russian Aggression
Germany has announced its intention to urgently transfer a Patriot anti-aircraft missile complex to Ukraine, as declared by the Ministry of Defense of the Federal Republic of Germany on the X social network.
Minister Boris Pistorius emphasised that Berlin is exerting every effort within its power to support Kiev.
"The Russian aggression against Ukraine's cities and infrastructure is causing immense suffering, jeopardising the population's energy supply, and disrupting industrial installations crucial for the operational readiness of Ukraine's armed forces," he stressed.
With Moscow escalating its attacks on Ukraine this spring, the shortage of air defence systems in Ukrainian urban and rural areas is keenly felt, with Russian assaults resulting in a heightened toll of casualties.
The bombardment of Ukraine's energy infrastructure has resulted in the destruction of several power plants throughout the country, including the Trypillia plant, which serves as the primary electricity provider to the regions of Kiev, Zhytomyr, and Cherkasy.
Kiev has intensified its appeals to allies for the provision of additional anti-aircraft defence systems, particularly Patriot systems manufactured in the USA, capable of intercepting ballistic missiles.
Following a phone conversation with Scholz, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky expressed gratitude to German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, describing the transfer as a genuine sign of support for Ukraine during this critical juncture.
Previously, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba disclosed that "active negotiations" are underway with allies regarding the acquisition of two Patriot anti-aircraft defence system batteries and one SAMP/T.
