Ukraine: Russia Attacks Power Grid to Break Defences

Russian troops have been attacking Ukraine's power system for several weeks. The aggressor's primary focus is on critical infrastructure, including thermal and hydroelectric power plants.

While residents of Kyiv are not currently experiencing power outages, persistent interruptions plague the Kharkiv and Kherson regions.

During an appearance on Moldova 1's "Scanner" program, Oleg Dunda, Deputy of the Supreme Rada of Ukraine, asserted that Moscow's objective is to render major cities, particularly Kharkiv, uninhabitable.

"Our intelligence indicates this is preparation for a large-scale offensive. Russia aims to weaken Ukraine's eastern defences, hinder repairs to energy facilities, and degrade our defence forces. This is their primary goal," Dunda stated. "Additionally, they seek to displace large numbers of civilians from these territories, making attacking Kharkiv and other regions easier."

Dunda also addressed recently adopted legislation regarding mobilisation and Western military aid. He emphasised the urgent need for air defence ammunition as a top priority within the arms supply from Ukraine's allies. The full interview can be viewed on Moldova 1's "Scanner" program this Sunday at 19:15.
