Increasing number of cases of rotavirus registered in Chisinau. Parents, urged to vaccinate their children
17 cases of measles have been confirmed at a placement center for refugees in the municipality of Chisinau, announced the deputy head of the General Directorate of Medical Assistance, Vladimir Bolocan, at the operational meeting of Chisinau services. He also stated that there are also three sporadic cases of measles infection in the municipality.
"Of the 22 suspected cases, only 17 have been confirmed, four have been denied, and one case still remains suspicious. Also, there are three sporadic cases of measles infection in Chisinau and in Hulboaca. These cases are not epidemiologically related to each other and do not present any risk of a new outbreak."
Vladimir Bolocan warned that, recently, the number of rotavirus infections has been alarmingly increasing, with 18 cases reported in April alone, which represents 50% of the total number of illnesses in the first quarter.
"If from January to March only 35 cases of rotavirus were reported, then in the first half of April we already have more than 18 cases, and I want to tell you that only four cases are among children who have been vaccinated with a dose".
The deputy head of the General Directorate of Medical Assistance urged parents to immunize their children, noting that the rotavirus vaccine is administered in the first six months of life, is safe and has no contraindications.
