Moldova Condemns Putin: Urges Action Against Aggression
The Republic of Moldova has backed the three resolutions passed by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), which condemn Vladimir Putin's totalitarian regime's policies and its aggression against Ukraine, Russian dissidents, and democracy.
The resolutions received unanimous support from all members of the Moldovan delegation, including three PAS deputies. However, the opposition, although expected to participate, did not attend the spring session of the forum.
"In my address to the assembly, I emphasised the imperative for all to recognize that Putin's current struggle extends beyond Ukraine and the Russian opposition. He now challenges European values themselves. Failure by Europe to promptly enact concrete measures to halt Putin's actions will inevitably lead to the erosion of not only our European values but also global stability," stated Deputy Natalia Davidovici.
Echoing these sentiments, Deputy Ion Groza of PAS remarked, "The participating nations at this session unanimously condemned Russia's behaviour and its aggression against Ukraine. Let us unite to safeguard peace in our world and advance its cause."
In the resolutions unanimously adopted on Wednesday, the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe reiterated that the Russian state bears full responsibility for the death of opposition figure Alexei Navalny and called for an independent international investigation into this matter. Additionally, PACE condemned the arbitrary detention of opposition figure Vladimir Kara-Murza and the systematic persecution of anti-war protesters in the Russian Federation and Belarus.
The Assembly urged all states to include in their sanctions lists those directly responsible for the persecution and mistreatment of the opposition in Russia.
