Battle for Eastern Ukraine: Russia Captures Village

On Sunday, Russia asserted that it had captured the small village of Bogdanovka in eastern Ukraine. This claim comes as the Russian army intensifies its offensive towards Chasiv Yar, a strategically significant city.

The development follows the US House of Representatives' approval of a new aid package for Ukraine on Saturday, where Ukrainian forces are encountering difficulties, according to Agerpres.

"Units belonging to the Southern Group of Forces have entirely captured the locality of Bogdanovka (Russian name)," the Russian Defense Ministry declared in a statement issued on Sunday.

Furthermore, Russian soldiers repelled two counterattacks launched by the Ukrainian army's 93rd Mechanised Brigade and fortified their positions in the direction of Chasiv Yar, the statement added.

Bogdanovka, a small village with a pre-war population of 100, is situated less than 10 kilometres from Chasiv Yar. The city is a key target for Russian forces following their capture of Bakhmut, located further east, in the spring of 2023.

Chasiv Yar is located less than 30 kilometres southeast of Kramatorsk, the most important Ukrainian-controlled city within Donetsk and a critical railway and logistics hub for the Ukrainian army.

The Ukrainian military did not mention Bogdanovka in its morning report. However, Ukrainian representatives have already acknowledged a "tense" situation in the broader region, where Russian troops possess "numerical superiority," according to Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umerov.

Moscow's announcement follows the US House of Representatives' approval of nearly $61 billion in new military and economic aid for Ukraine on Saturday.
