Major fire in the Port of Giurgiulesti: Another tank catches fire
A new fire was recorded in the morning of Friday, January 20, in the Giurgiulești Free International Port. According to the fire department, the flames engulfed another tank (no. 2) with a load of sunflower seeds. Five crews of rescuers and firefighters with a staff of 20 subordinate employees were sent to the scene to ensure the intervention mission. At this time, firefighters are carrying out actions to extinguish and to liquidate the consequences of the fire.
According to the information collected from the site, tank no. 2 has a capacity of 1,100 tons. At the moment, only 50% of the total volume is stored in it. According to the IGSU, following the incident, no victims are reported and there are no risks for citizens and the infrastructure in the area. To ensure safety and prevent risky situations, rescuers act. We remind you that a similar incident happened on January 16, 2023. Due to the smoldering of a load of more than 1,000 tons, the tanker collapsed.
