Official data: How many inhabitants of the Transnistrian region hold the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova
Out of the total number of almost 370 thousand inhabitants residing on the left bank of the Nistru, about 352 thousand have the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, the Reintegration Policy Office announces. According to the cited source, among them, about 329 thousand hold, including, Moldovan passports, and almost 300 thousand - identity cards.
According to the cited source, during the period August 2021 - December 2022, 6,395 inhabitants of the Transnistrian region benefited from facilitations when issuing the identity card of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova, and 501 - when issuing the provisional identity card. The reintegration office notes that, under the conditions of the simplified procedure for acquiring the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, for four years, in the period 2018-2022, 32,349 people were recognized as citizens of the Republic of Moldova, of which 22,291 (about 69%) are residents of the left bank of the Nistru and the municipality of Bender who previously obtained identity documents of citizens of the Republic of Moldova. During the year 2022, 10,711 people from the region requested the certification of civil status facts, with 11,653 civil status documents certified for them and 6,625 duplicates issued as a result of repeated applications.
