Moldova Celebrates Flag Day: Tricolor Flies High
Citizens of the Republic of Moldova, both at home and abroad, have been invited by the head of the Legislature, Igor Grosu, to display the tricolour on State Flag Day.
The official urged Moldovans to wear this symbol with pride.
"The symbol under which we have gained our independence, freedom, and sovereignty," Grosu declared at the beginning of the Parliament's session. "It represents the right to choose, for ourselves, the path we want to follow." He continued, "Let's, on this day, all those who have the opportunity, display the tricolour. Let's wear this flag with pride, wherever we are, at home or in the diaspora."
On this occasion, a group of students from the Geamănă Gymnasium, Anenii Noi district, came to the plenary hall of the Parliament with a poetry recital dedicated to this holiday.
It is noted that State Flag Day of the Republic of Moldova, the official main symbol of the country's sovereignty and independence, is marked on April 27.
State Flag Day was established by the Parliament in Chisinau on April 23, 2010. The tricolour was officially designated the state flag on April 27, 1990, following a lengthy speech delivered in Parliament by Alexandru Moșanu. Moșanu spoke about historical truth, the significance of the national colours, the widespread support for the tricolour among citizens, and the absence of viable alternatives. Nearly 290 deputies from the first legislature voted in favour of the tricolour, while the Transnistrian delegation left the meeting room. Notably, the tricolour was already being displayed on government buildings at all levels, on tall flagpoles, and on residential structures even before its official adoption.
