Moldovan Students Ace Baccalaureate Exams
This article describes a situation in Moldova where 46 graduating students from a high school in the capital city earned perfect scores on the baccalaureate exams in English and computer science without having to take the tests.
These students qualified for exemption by passing international exams that correspond to the baccalaureate subjects. The students expressed satisfaction with having more time to concentrate on their other exams.
High Achievers in Computer Science
Here are the five students who earned perfect scores on the computer science baccalaureate exam without taking it. As they had excelled in computer science throughout their studies, they decided to take the exam and qualify for exemption before the regular baccalaureate.
"After two years at a programming academy, when the chance to earn a perfect score on the baccalaureate arose, I just studied for the three exams in a week," says Bogdan Grecu.
"I wanted to take on the challenge of getting this perfect score, which some view as difficult and others as achievable. In just a month and a half of studying, I succeeded in earning a 10 on the baccalaureate," says Daniel Ivaniuc.
"Computer science is easy for me, so I figured I would do well on the exam too," says Vlada Mîțu.
"The last exam was a close call score-wise, but I was relieved to learn that I only had Romanian and maths left," says Mihai Zastînceanu.
"In my experience, many students have taken the computer science baccalaureate exam. I even had a class where 19 out of 21 students chose computer science. Education is either effective or not. It's a field with a promising future," says computer science teacher Ecaterina Adam.
English Language Success
The English exam was administered to 41 students. These students needed to demonstrate proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing to pass the exam.
"I relied on the fact that I wanted to focus more on the other baccalaureate exams such as Romanian, history, and maths. I thought earning a perfect score on this exam would take a weight off my mind and allow me to showcase my abilities," says Evelina Subțirelu.
"Fortunately, I didn't need any extra preparation, and I sincerely hope that I will be able to apply using this diploma in the future," says Alexandra Dimancea.
"I got rid of an exam that's internationally recognized, so I have the possibility to apply to more places. I'm glad I have time to prepare for other exams as well," says Ioana-Miruna Ionescu.
The English teacher, Olga Ciorici, explained that in addition to the Ministry of Education's curriculum, the school incorporates textbooks from Cambridge University Press. These materials ensure that students develop all four language skills assessed on the exam.
The school administration actively encourages student participation in various national and international competitions and projects. This involvement allows students to gain valuable experience, which contributes to achieving the academic performance the school strives for.
Last year, it is worth noting, all the students in a 12th-grade class from this same high school earned perfect scores on the baccalaureate exam in English.
