Fire Erupts at Moldova's Radio House
A fire broke out this evening at the Radio House, located on Miorița Street 1 in the Telecentru sector of the Moldovan capital. Four firefighting crews responded to extinguish the blaze.
According to a social media post by Vlad Țurcanu, Director General of the Teleradio-Moldova Company, the fire occurred while the Eurovision semi-final was taking place in Malmo, where Moldovan singer Natalia Barbu was performing.
Firefighters received the emergency call at 11:05 PM. Twelve fire trucks with a crew of 50 firefighters from the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations were dispatched to the scene. Upon arrival, firefighters determined the fire was located in the server room on the second floor of the building. One person was evacuated from the building by emergency personnel.
There were no reported casualties as a result of the fire. The blaze was localised at 11:58 PM and extinguished by 00:17 AM. Firefighters estimate that the flames affected an area of approximately 40 square metres.
The cause and circumstances surrounding the fire are currently under investigation.
