Dortmund Crush PSG to Reach Champions League Final
Borussia Dortmund secured a dominant 1-0 away victory over Paris Saint-Germain, replicating their first-leg win by the same scoreline.
The Parisian encounter commenced at a frenetic pace, with Goncalo Ramos, Kylian Mbappé, and Niclas Füllkrug all testing the respective goalkeepers. Karim Adeyemi squandered the most promising opportunity of the first half, failing to beat Gianluigi Donnarumma.
PSG emerged with greater purpose in the second period, but youngster Zaire-Emery spurned a glorious chance to break the deadlock, rattling the crossbar. The momentum swiftly shifted towards the German side as Borussia capitalised on a perfectly executed corner from Julian Brandt. Mats Hummels rose majestically to head the ball into the net.
Paris Saint-Germain subjected the German team to relentless pressure in the final half-hour. Borussia Dortmund countered with a tactical shift, employing a three-man central defensive line to absorb the pressure.
"We navigated this double-header triumphantly. PSG undoubtedly had their chances, but football is ultimately decided by goals. Our defence was impeccable, and goalkeeper Gregor Kobel was in excellent form," declared Nico Schlotterbeck, Borussia Dortmund defender.
"It is deeply disappointing to miss out on the final. The lads gave their all and fought tirelessly. We lacked effectiveness in both legs, and that is a recipe for failure in the Champions League," lamented Kylian Mbappé, PSG striker.
The final, scheduled for June 1st at Wembley Stadium in London, will see Borussia Dortmund face either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich. This marks Borussia Dortmund's third Champions League final appearance. They emerged victorious in 1997 but suffered defeat at the hands of Bayern Munich at Wembley Stadium eleven years ago.
