Johannes Hahn: Moldova could become a member state of the EU before 2030

The Republic of Moldova could become a member of the European Union earlier than 2030, said the European official, but now it is important for the member states to start actual negotiations with our country, said European Commissioner Johannes Hahn.

"*Some things have been done, but I have every confidence that we will soon start negotiations and further everything will be possible. I don't want to speculate, but soon," said the European commissioner.

President Maia Sandu said that the Republic of Moldova would officially start accession negotiations to the European Union after the European parliamentary elections from June.

"We want a positive decision as soon as possible and we hope it will happen in June. We started the evaluation exercise of the degree of correspondence of the Moldovan legislation to the European one. On the other hand, the evaluation that the European Union is doing is also happening, there are current things that we have to continue. The most important decisions from the member states and the European institutions have already been taken, and this encourages us. European integration is the most important country project, it is not a political project. This date is conditioned by the decision of the Council and we hope that after the European parliamentary elections we will be able to obtain this date, which we hope will be soon", the Head of State pointed out.

We remind you that the head of the EU Delegation in Chisinau, Jānis Mažeiks, confirmed in a program on TV8 that Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova could start EU accession negotiations by the end of June, before the parliamentary elections in the EU countries.
