Moldova Exports Soar: EU Market Beckons Farmers
The European Union market offers access to a vast pool of over 500 million potential customers for Moldovan products.
In this context, Minister of Agriculture Vladimir Bolea announced that specialists are developing policies to ensure Moldovan products comply with European Union regulations. These efforts aim to allow farmers to access all available markets.
According to Minister Bolea, Moldovan producers achieved significant growth last year, exporting double the amount of plums and grapes to European Union countries at higher prices. This success is attributed to the establishment of professional associations that support farmers in their endeavours.
"The average price of grapes reached 90 euro cents, while plums fetched over 50 euro cents on average. It's important to note that these are just average prices, and some exports commanded even higher prices. Compared to just a few years ago, this is a surprisingly high price increase, especially considering the fact that exports also doubled in volume," Minister Bolea remarked.
Since April, Moldovan producers have been able to export fresh, chilled, and frozen poultry meat to the European Union. This accomplishment follows their successful acquisition of the right to export processed poultry meat and table eggs to the European market in March 2023.
