Moldovan Wrestler Dominates, Qualifies for Olympics

The number of Moldovan wrestlers qualified for the Paris Olympics continues to grow. Yesterday, 23-year-old Mariana Drăguțan secured her place at the prestigious sporting event in dominant fashion.

Drăguțan marched through the qualifying tournament in Turkey, culminating in a decisive victory in the 53kg weight category final against Hungary's Sztalvira Orsos. Establishing a commanding lead of 5-0 within the first three minutes, Drăguțan never relinquished control of the match.

Maintaining her momentum after the break, Drăguțan executed two spectacular moves to further solidify her dominance. With just three seconds remaining on the clock, she delivered a powerful manoeuvre that pinned her opponent to the mat, securing a triumphant victory by a score of 11-2.

This impressive performance marks Drăguțan's qualification for her first Olympic Games. She joins the four other Moldovan wrestlers who have already secured their spots in the competition set to take place in the French capital.

Drăguțan becomes the 12th Moldovan athlete to qualify for the Olympics this year. Joining her fellow wrestlers are Anastasia Nichita, Irina Rîngaci, Victor Ciobanu, and Valentin Petic. The list also includes Serghei Tarnovschi, Daniela Cociu, and Maria Olărașu from rowing; Dan Olaru from archery; Ana Dulce from shooting; Marin Robu from weightlifting; and Alisa Glinca from equestrianism.
