From 1 June, Moldovans who work or have worked in Spain will be able to claim pensions and allowances

Moldovan citizens who work or have worked in Spain will be entitled to claim different types of pensions and allowances.

A Social Security Agreement between the Republic of Moldova and the Kingdom of Spain, signed in Madrid on 21 July 2022, will enter into force on 1 June this year.

According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Protection (MMPS), Moldovan citizens will be able to apply to the Spanish authorities for old-age pensions, pensions for disability caused by a general illness, pensions and allowances for disability caused by an accident at work or an occupational disease, and survivors' pensions. The same rights will also apply to citizens of Spain who work or have worked in the Republic of Moldova.

"In order to receive pensions and other social benefits provided for in international agreements in the field of social security to which the Republic of Moldova is a party, eligible persons shall submit an application to the National Social Insurance House (CNAS) or to the competent institution of the other contracting state," the MMPS states.

According to official data, there are currently about 22 thousand citizens of the Republic of Moldova settled in the Kingdom of Spain.

The Republic of Moldova has concluded social security agreements with 18 countries: the Republic of Austria, the Republic of Bulgaria, the Portuguese Republic, Romania, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Republic of Estonia, the Czech Republic, the Kingdom of Belgium, the Republic of Poland, Hungary, the Republic of Lithuania, the Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Turkey, the Republic of Belarus, the Italian Republic, the Republic of Latvia, the Hellenic Republic and the Kingdom of Spain, 17 of which are already in force.
