Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popescu: "The absolute priority of our diplomacy is accession to the European Union"
Accession to the European Union is, according to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Nicu Popescu, the "absolute priority" of diplomacy from Chisinau. The Deputy Prime Minister gave assurances, during public consultations regarding the Government's action plan on foreign policy, for the current year, that the Chisinau authorities are doing their best to achieve this goal.
"The absolute priority is accession to the EU, and here we are firmly confident that we will succeed in bringing Moldova into the European Union," said the head of diplomacy from Chisinau, Nicu Popescu. We remind you that the National Commission for European Integration recently found that nine actions out of the 35 included in the Action Plan for the implementation of the European Union's recommendations were not carried out by the end of 2022, as planned. However, the Commission, which assessed the level of their achievement, states that 16 are completed and nine are at the final stage. President Maia Sandu mentioned, after the meeting of the National Commission, that the remaining measures must be completed by the end of March. According to the head of state, it is necessary for all responsible institutions to boost the efforts to implement the Action Plan. We remind that in order to start the negotiations for accession to the European Union, the Republic of Moldova must fulfill nine conditions formulated in the opinion of the European Commission and approved by the European Council together with the offer, on June 23, 2022, of the status of a candidate country for accession to the EU. Recently, President Maia Sandu declared that our country "should" become a member of the EU "by the end of the decade".
