Belgorod Bombardments: Ministry of Health Updates on Casualties
Update: The Ministry of Health has announced that 17 individuals have been hospitalised in Belgorod, with the pro-Kremlin Telegram channel Mash reporting a higher number.
The source indicates that 7 individuals have died, and 32 have been injured. Up to 10 individuals may still be trapped under the debris.
Initial Report: The head of the Russian region Belgorod has reported extensive bombardments on the regional centre and surrounding areas. According to BBC reports, one of the shells struck a residential building, resulting in significant damage. Regional authorities have confirmed casualties following the collapse of a section of an apartment building. Currently, there is no reliable information regarding the exact number of casualties.
The "Interfax" agency, within local emergency services, reported that rescuers at the collapse site are searching for at least ten individuals. There is a threat of collapse of nearby entrances, and evacuation efforts are underway.
"According to preliminary data, more than 10 individuals are trapped under the rubble. According to relatives, they were at home, and there is no communication with them," stated a representative of emergency services.
Veaceslav Gladkov accuses Ukraine, the country where the Russian Federation launched a large-scale military invasion in the spring of 2022, of bombing the region on the evening of May 11-12.
It is worth mentioning that previously, officials in Kiev claimed that the attacks were not directed against civilian targets but were aimed at Russian military, energy, and transportation infrastructure to undermine Moscow's war efforts and respond to Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.
