Romanian citizens could travel to the USA without visas from 2025. Ciolacu: "It's a historic moment"
Citizens with Romanian passports could travel visa-free to the United States of America (USA) starting at the end of next year, Romania's ambassador to Washington, Andrei Muraru, told TVR Info. According to the official, progress has been made, and Romania could enter the Visa Waiver Program in 2025. Prime Minister of Romania, Marcel Ciolacu, told Antena 3 CNN that he is confident that the visas will disappear in the second half of next year.
“The fiscal year in the US ends in September. I am firmly convinced that in October, at the latest, we will no longer have visas to the United States. Also, Poland has succeeded in this. We need a mobilization of the Romanians and to understand that now is a historic moment, when we must get involved", declared the Romanian Prime Minister, Marcel Ciolacu.
Among the three candidate countries in the European Union that are not part of the Visa Waiver program, Romania has the most important percentage decrease, surpassing Cyprus and Bulgaria.
Thus, in the last three years, the visa refusal rate in Romania decreased from 17% in 2021 to 8% last year. For the country to enter the Visa Waiver program, the refusal rate must be less than 3%.
