Maia Sandu, in Berlin: Germany is a strong and important ally of the Republic of Moldova, on the path to the EU
Moldovan-German cooperation was discussed by President Maia Sandu during a meeting with the President of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Chancellor Olaf Scholz and the President of the Bundestag, Bärbel Bas. In Berlin, the head of state discussed, in particular, cooperation in the economic field to help develop and create safe and well-paid jobs. Just as Germany is one of the main trade partners and an important source of investment for Moldova, the Chisinau authorities aim to deepen these economic ties.
"Germany is a strong and important ally of the Republic of Moldova, on the path to the European Union, democracy and prosperity. German leaders support Moldova's accession to the EU, so that our citizens can live in peace, understanding and prosperity. Our European aspirations and the reforms we are carrying out were an important theme of today's discussions. In this context, I invited Federal Chancellor Scholz to Chisinau to see the steps we are taking on our modernization path", said President Maia Sandu.
At the same time, the president emphasized that she is also in Berlin to convey a strong message of gratitude to all German citizens.
"Their country stood by us in the crises of the last two years, providing support thanks to which we improve the quality of life in Moldova, invest in infrastructure, advance reforms and strengthen the security of the state, so that our citizens are safe", concluded Maia Sandu .
We remind you that President Maia Sandu is visiting Germany on May 17-18. In Berlin, the head of state will also receive a prize, worth 25 thousand euros, which will be donated. The distinction recognizes the president's steadfast commitment to democratic values. Also, during her visit to Germany, Maia Sandu will meet with the Moldovan communities in Berlin and Frankfurt am Main.
Germany, a founding country of the European Union and a top partner of Moldova, plays an important role in the country's modernization and European integration. In March 2022, after the outbreak of war in the neighborhood, Germany, together with France and Romania, launched the Support Platform for Moldova. This initiative mobilized significant support, which enabled the efficient management of the flow of Ukrainian refugees, the strengthening of energy security and the advancement of economic and social reforms in the Republic of Moldova.
Germany is an essential economic partner for Moldova, with many companies operating here or purchasing locally manufactured components. Strengthening commercial-economic relations is one of the main themes of the visit.
