Ukraine Sinks Russian Minesweeper in Black Sea
On Saturday night, the Ukrainian military destroyed a Kovrovets minesweeper belonging to Russia's Black Sea Fleet, according to a statement from the Ukrainian Navy press service, which cited the BBC. The Ukrainian General Staff later confirmed this information.
Russia has not commented on reports of the ship's destruction.
The Aquamarine-M is a class of Soviet-era minesweepers currently deployed by the Russian Navy, as well as by the militaries of Syria and Yemen. The "Kovrovets" itself participated in Russia's military operations in Syria during 2016.
Another minesweeper in this class, the "Ivan Golubets", was damaged during a Ukrainian attack on Russian ships in the Black Sea port of Sevastopol on October 29, 2022.
