Europeans want the member states of the Union to have a common defense strategy

The latest Eurobarometer shows that Europeans want the member states of the Union to have a common defense policy and strategy and, at the same time, to increase their production capacity of military equipment. Security and defense are, moreover, priority areas, in the opinion of European citizens, reports Radio România News.

77% of Europeans are in favor of a common defense and security policy among member states, while 71% want the European Union to strengthen its capacity to produce military equipment.

69% of them want a common foreign policy and 67% believe that the European Union represents a pole of stability in a world marked by problems.

As for the war in Ukraine, 87% of EU citizens agree with the humanitarian support given to people affected by the war, and 83% agree with the reception of people fleeing the conflict.

72% of EU citizens support economic sanctions against Russia, and 70% agree with financial support for Ukraine.

When it comes to crises that have influenced the lives of Europeans, they believe that the war in Ukraine ranks first - 42 percent, followed by the pandemic - 34% and the economic crisis - 23%.

Compared to the economy, the biggest problem remains inflation, with 38% of Europeans indicating this aspect. The perception of the European economic situation has improved since autumn 2023.
