Moldova Goes Green: Electric Vehicles Get New Plates
Beginning on June 7, 2024, the Public Services Agency (PSA) of Moldova will implement a new system of green licence plates for automobiles with eco-friendly propulsion systems.
This category encompasses fully electric vehicles and those powered by hydrogen fuel cells.
The initiative aims to enhance the identification of electric vehicles on the road, thereby promoting sustainable transportation. Owners of electric vehicles already registered with the PSA can voluntarily request to swap their standard black plates for green ones.
"Green licence plates will serve as a distinct visual indicator for electric vehicles," explains the PSA. "This measure is part of the Moldovan government's ongoing efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and combat climate change."
According to PSA data, only one electric car was registered in Moldova in 2014. This number rose significantly last year, with 1,012 electric vehicles registered. As of April 2024, a total of 3,020 electric cars have been registered in Moldova since 2014.
