The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken and the President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, hold a joint press conference, after a bilateral meeting at the Presidency. The American official is going to announce, in Chisinau, a new package of American assistance for the Republic of Moldova, aimed at achieving energy independence, according to a recent announcement by the US State Department. Antony Blinken arrived in the Republic of Moldova in the afternoon of today, May 29. At the Chisinau International Airport, the American official was welcomed by the Moldovan Foreign Minister, Mihai Popșoi, and the US ambassador to our country, Kent Logsdon. Blinken's visit comes a week after the European Union signed a security and defense pact with the Republic of Moldova that will help defend against Russian threats.
According to the political analyst from Romania, Armand Goșu, the visit of the Secretary of State to the Republic of Moldova is a reconfirmation of American support in the context of the war in Ukraine.
We remind you that this is the second visit of the head of American diplomacy to the Republic of Moldova, since the beginning of Russia's war against Ukraine. The US is one of the most important partners and supporters of the Republic of Moldova. Since 1992, the US Government has supported Moldova with funding exceeding 2.5 billion dollars.
