Winter hits Europe: Authorities urge people to say indoors
Heavy snow and blizzards in Poland, Croatia, Slovenia, Czech Republic and Germany. Due to the storm and snowy roads, there were hundreds of road accidents, in which eight people were injured. Meanwhile, thousands of towns have been left in the dark, and people are being urged to stay indoors and not hit the road unless absolutely necessary.

Heavy snowfall, thick snow and slush on the road disrupted traffic in southwestern Germany. Not only cars had problems, but also trucks. The intervention of the snow removal crews did not change the situation much. According to the traffic police, in a few hours, there were 100 accidents, in which eight people were injured.
And in Poland, due to the snow, traffic on public roads was difficult. The firefighters had a lot of work, because due to the snow and blizzard, many trees fell. The electrical networks also suffered, and thousands of people were left without electricity.
The third level of avalanche danger has been declared in the Tatra mountains. In the Czech Republic, up to 20 centimetres of snow fell, leading to an increase in road accidents and public transport delays.
Slovakia is also affected by bad weather and traffic is difficult. Many trees were uprooted and fell to the ground.
Heavy snow and blizzards also caused problems in Croatia. Several national roads were closed and ferry services on the Adriatic Sea were suspended. There were problems due to snowfall in most cities in northern Croatia, where a layer of snow 30 centimetres thick fell.
Due to a wave of cold weather, the Italians are also on alert. The north and centre of the Peninsula is affected by snow and strong wind, and in the south of the country torrential rains are wreaking havoc.
